First Post

So, first blog post!! I decided that I would be appropriate to comment on the survey results that we went over in class today…or yesterday now.  There were a few things that I found interesting. On question eight I thought it was interesting that a fourth of the people surveyed trusted people in authority to make decisions for them. I think this a problem with today’s society. There aren’t enough people questioning our government.  We think they know what to do but in all honestly I don’t think they know a lot more than the average person. They are basing their decisions on their moral values, and their own worldviews. Then the country complains that the people in authority made a bad decision. We should have more of a say in what the government actually does, because I don’t think they are trustworthy enough as a whole to make decisions for us.

I agree with you on not questioning the government. After all, how can we expect our representatives to truly represent each person in the state. How can one person represent an elderly woman, working man, and a single mother? They can't. So I definately think we should challenge our law makers and representative to make better decisions for the people.

i agree with a lot of what you said here about people not questioning the government. In a perfect world the people that we elect would just listen to their constituents and not be swayed by lobbyists or other other members of congress. However, i think it goes a little deeper than people just not questioning. There was a study done a few years ago that asked people weather they believed congress was corrupt and about 2/3s of the people said yes. and then the survey asked if they believed that the people that they elected were corrupt and only about 5% thought so. I think as far as people not questioning the congress or senate has more to do with them actually trusting the people that they elect and when a law gets passed or a bill proposed that they don't like they blame it on members of congress/senators that they had nothing to do with and then feel that they have no control. However, i agree that we do need to look more closely at our government in general instead of just trusting who we elect and then not paying attention to what they do afterwards.

I agree with you on questioning the government, but I also question people who talk about the bad things the government does but doesnt act upon it. so my question for you is, how do you help improve this government you are questioning.
